About
Barron Wood Distribution History
Barron Wood was formed in 1993 by brothers John & David Fairbrother based out of their grand-parent’s farm in Tarleton, Lancashire. Prior to forming Barron Wood, John & David, had worked for other local transport companies culminating in the purchase of their own vehicles which they used to deliver produce from local farms to markets in Yorkshire and southern England.
Barron Wood continued to service the produce market out of West Lancashire but quickly expanded into the general haulage sector servicing a variety of manufacturing and distribution clients out of the North West of England. As the company’s reputation for reliability and competitiveness spread, the business expanded it’s customer base in other areas of the UK, opening a second depot in Glasgow in 2002. 2010 marked another landmark year with the Glasgow depot relocating to larger premises and the head office moving from the farm to a purpose built site with 10,000sq. feet of offices in Much Hoole, just outside Preston.
Further growth and expansion has followed and today the company operates in virtually every industry sector and every region of the UK. In 2013 the company formally launched it’s European road freight business allowing customers to benefit from the same low cost, reliable transport service for all their import and export traffic to continental Europe as well as UK domestic traffic.
The owners still remain very much at the helm of the business supported by many family members and an extremely loyal and hard-working team.
